When can I have a bath after giving birth?

In the majority of cases it should be perfectly fine for you to have a bath immediately after giving birth if you wish to do so. However, if you’ve had a difficult vaginal birth or caesarean you might need to wait a bit longer so it’s best to ask your midwife for advice that’s specific to you and your needs.

Indeed it can be easier to have a quick soak in the tub than stand in a shower, especially if you’ve been through a traumatic labour and birth that’s left you feeling exhausted and a bit wobbly on your feet. And you may even find that your midwife runs a bath for you before you leave the hospital.
