The benefits of baby massage

May 18, 2016

Baby massage is a useful activity for settling and soothing your baby just before bedtime. Gently stroking your baby's arms, legs and tummy with a massage oil helps to moisturise the skin too! Here are just some of the other great benefits to baby massage:

  1. It helps baby to feel calm and relaxed.
  2. It encourages bonding and makes your baby feel safe and secure.
  3. It's the perfect time to turn off all distractions, like your phone and tv, and focus completely on your baby.
  4. Stroking your baby causes the body to release oxytocin (commonly known as the love hormone), which lifts your mood and cheers up a fussy baby.
  5. Massage oil smooths, softens and protects your baby's skin (Baby’s ‘Rub-a-Bye’ Body & Scalp Oil is blend of natural, easily absorbed oils that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Its a skin-conditioning salve that nourishes and strengthens the skin).
  6. It helps the muscles to relax, which promotes sleep.
  7. It reduces emotional distress because your baby feels happy and loved.
  8. Getting dad involved is ideal because it gives new fathers the chance to bond with their baby.
  9. It provides a great distraction from teething pain, wind and constipation.
  10. Massaging your baby in the evening becomes an excellent sleep trigger as you incorporate it into your little one's bedtime routine. Your baby will soon begin to associate massage with bed time and begin to nod off on command (fingers crossed!).
