October skincare tips

October 5, 2016

The weather's getting colder, which means your skin might need some extra TLC to cope with the harsh winds and chillier mornings. Here's our 5-step guide to caring for your skin when the cold weather bites:

  1. Consider amping up the type of moisturiser that you use. Lighter lotions may have been perfect for your skin type over the summer months but you may need something richer now that the colder season has arrived. Thicker balms and oils are ideal for extra dry skin because they hold in the moisture better than lighter lotions that are a blend of oil and water.
  2. Slather on some thick moisturiser on your damp skin immediately after taking a shower. You'll be able to trap more moisture into the skin, helping to concentrate the power of your moisturiser.
  3. Keep your tootsies looking and feeling smooth by moisturising them before bed and popping on a pair of socks. The warmth will maximise absorption and hydrate cracked heels and dry ankles.
  4. Avoid licking your lips if they become chapped because it will only make the problem worse and lead to more stinging and soreness. Use a lip salve instead to lock in moisture and protect your lips from the drying effects of windburn.
  5. Eat a diet that's rich in healthy fats to improve your skin tone and condition. Avocados, nuts and oily fish like mackerel and fresh tuna are ideal.
